The Boatshed Kayaks on LAKE KARAPIRO
Richard's kayak background is 14 years of Multisport paddling, competing in 11 Coast to Coast races plus numerous other events. The Boatshed has been training grade 2 paddlers for 8 years, with a huge number of paddlers experiencing their introduction to kayaking through The Boatshed. Robyn, although no longer involved in the day-to-day running of the business, is still a keen paddler and regularly competing in the Coast to Coast.
Richard is also involved in many of the other kayak disciplines such as sea kayaking, flat water racing, white water, kayak fishing, so can offer advice on most aspects of kayaking .
The ethos at the Boatshed has been based on getting people out there paddling, young and old, and therefore growing kayaking as a sport or recreational activity.
Richard is the owner-operator of The Boatshed Kayaks. He is also the race director for the Maungatautari Mission multi-sport race. Richard has completed the Speight's Coast-to-Coast event many times as an individual competitor. In this photo he is enjoying a glass of champagne during a recent celebration for the launching of a new kayak at the Boatshed.
We are perched above Lake Karapiro over looking the lake, just 10min from Cambridge, 45min from Hamilton, 15min from Te Awamutu. We have a brown tourism sign erected on SH1 that's hard to miss!
This map shows where we are in relation to Cambridge:
